Memoriae Mundi Series Bohemica - digital access to rare documents (A.
Knoll) ... p. 105-108
The article describes the project of digital access to rare documents Memonriae Mundi
Series Bohemica, which is related to the UNESCO Memory of the World programme. The project is a result of
long-tern and systematic co-operation of the National Library of the Czech Republic with Albertina icome
Praha Ltd. Company. Background of the final solution and basic attributes of the digital document are
explained as well as the SGML platform able t define objects and describe their relations within document.
The article informs about the extension of HTML defined in the new DOBM format (SGLM-based). The digital
document can be used without further modifications in the web environment as well as it can be accessed by
special ManuFreT software. Thus a digital book is created. It is a rich combination of graphic data and
descriptive metadata (metainformation).
Master project and standardization in
manuscripts processing (Z. Uhlíř) ... p. 109-112
The presented article deals with participation of the Czech National Library in the
project of the European Commission MASTER (Manuscript Access through Standards for Electronic Records). The
purpose of this project is to prepare a standard for manuscript description and to make a prototype of online
joint catalogue of medieval manuscripts written in Latin script. The final aim of such and approach to
manuscript treatment is to make crossable borders among the historical cultural regions of European/Latin
civilization. The first steps in the work progress of have shown us that the crucial questions and issues are
rather of a methodological than technological kind. Thus, the assumed efforts of MASTER should bring not only
practical effects for librarianship, but also a great challenge for manuscript research and treatment as a
whole.
Manuscripts - their preservation and
avalibility (M. Hejnová - Z. Uhlíř) ... p. 114-116
The problem of availability of medieval manuscripts through substitute documents (CD-R,
microfilm, dia) is dealt with. Various issues as for when and under which conditions the particular types of
substitute carriers of information should he created are solved. Within these points of issue an auxiliary
division of original documents into textual and pictorial ones is designed from which follows in which order
secondary documents should be created. The whole this range of questions is connected with the grants
"Microclimate" and "Digitalization" in the sense to be presented priorities both of accessibility and
preservation.
The preparation of data for
digitalization of manuscripts, its meaning and context (Z. Uhlíř) ... p. 117-129
The presented paper deals with digital and electronic processing of manuscripts within the
programme Memoriae Mundi Series Bohemica and brings some methodological and theoretical considerations on the
topic of manuscript treatment and study. The key issues are thus making a digital document in a form of a
virtual book, building of connected information systems and the phenomenological approach to objects of
interest on both these levelp. The crucial question in background is the purpose and target of manuscript
study in the digital era that should be based on heuristics in the global information environment.
