Content Online information retrieval II: User interface and influences of ,,human-computer interaction" discipline (R.Papík) ... p. 81-90 Second part of the serial on online information retrieval is dedicated to a problem and role of user interface in searching process. User interface as problem is related to many disciplines. First is probably a new discipline named "human-computer interaction" (HCI). That is typical meeting point of few large sciences and areas, e.g.: computer science, ergonomy, linguistics, psychology (especially cognitive psychology), also cognitive sciences, ergonomy, anthropology, arts, design, and artificial intelligence. Correlating with the information science is perceivable, too. The article mentions history and development of HCI briefly, principles of designing of modern systems (system and technology driven, user-centered, learner-centered, etc.), kinds of user interfaces, also a problem of mental models, information perception incl. visual perception, and quite very important standard ISO 9241. A main idea of continuing article is to present an influence and importance of user interface and HCI on information seeking process in an electronic environment. Celbová) ... p. 91-98 Information on the R&D project conducted by the National Library of the Czech Republic under the title Registration, preservation of and accessibility to the Internet home electronic resources and supported by the Ministry of Culture. The project is aimed at the state of development analysis and the pilot study concerning the integration of remote electronic (particularly Czech) resources into the digital library, and their bibliography, archiving and accessibility to them according to copyright law. The project implementation includes ICT, library and legislative aspects. GILS Service as a tool for information resources managing in the U.S. government (R. Cvrčková) ... p. 99-113 GILS (Government information Locator Service) is de fined as an information service that identifies public in formation resources throughout the U.S. government, describes information available in those resources and provides assistance in obtaining the information by use of the interface of the World Wide Web. This paper summarizes experiences in developing the system and organization government information, including how to the locator records are created, retrieved and made avail able to the public. A special attention is paid to the GILS metadata element set. The author also describes federal (GPO Access GILS, U.S. Federal Government Information Clearinghouse) and state (WAGILS, TRAIL) implementations. The Copyright Law - Part II Legal arrangement of database protection (D. Hartmanova) ... p. 114-117 Legal protection of databases in Copyright Act arises from acquis communautaire, namely from the provision of Directive 96/9/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 1996 on the legal protection of databases. Copyright Act contains the definition of the term database. In the scope of such defined databases there are specified these ones that are protected by copyright as works of collection by reason of creative selection or arrangement of their contents, The new phenomenon in Copyright Act is specification of databases that are protected by sui generis right by reason of substantial investment in either the obtaining, verification or presentation of theirs content. The first director of the University Library and its beginnings in 1777-1780 (L. Kubátová) ... p. 117-125 Based on still unexploited archival documents the author presents František Josef Kinský of Vchynice and Tetov (6.12.1739-9.6.1805) as a proposer of unifying university libraries (i.e. the New-Carolinum and Clementinum Libraries) with the libraries of the cancelled Jesuit Order and with the Majorate Kinský Library as well as the first director of these united libraries. He was appointed by Maria Theresia at the same time when the new institutions were established, i.e. in January 25, 1777. Although he worked in the Library only for more then one year (he was dismissed by his own request to be able to fulfill his military duties) he provided for the Library sufficient premises for book storage for a long time, started their adaptation and obtained financial means with a long perspective ahead. The author documents also Kinský effort to organize higher technical education at the Prague University and presents his proposal to establish a lower military academy in Prague.
